Product Description

Packs a punch. It displays complex enveloping aromas ranging from ripe blackberries to dried morello cherries, star anise and Christmas cake mingled with undertones of earthy mushroom, typically associated with classic Amarone wines. The fruit richness extends onto powerful, rich and penetrating palate – savoury, complex and textural, mouth-warming with a mellow balancing tannin frame, ensuring this wine will continue to evolve for years to come. An unashamed blockbuster.

The Corvina grapes were progressively harvested from late April into May, three months after most varieties. These grapes were partially dried for 10 days prior to a prolonged two-month fermentation assisted by the ‘Prunevale Princess’ the wild yeast that is part of the local terroir.  She probably evolved as a result of a century of prune production, and has the unique capacity of fermenting balanced high alcohol wines. Aged in old oak barrels for two years, prior to blending and bottling in 2015. Subsequently, the wine was cellared another two years at 14oC to allow the tannins to fully integrate and enrich the palate.

“Made entirely from dried corvina grapes. 19.6% alcohol, no less.
Obviously it’s warm and rich but it’s well balanced and fresh too. It’s presents a lake of sweet fruit and spice-laden flavour, with leather and raspberry notes adding bass and treble respectively. Dried fruits, Xmas cake, you name it. Not your standard fare, dusty and dry to finish, thoroughly enjoyable.”
